Landscape Design and Installation

A plan built around your soil, your sun exposure, and the style of the house beats whatever's on sale at a big-box nursery. Because so much of Ridge sits close to preserved woodland, we lean toward plant varieties proven to handle sandy soil and partial shade.

We start every design with a walk of the property in daylight, tracking where the sun actually falls through the day rather than guessing from the house's orientation. A mature oak or pine stand can put half a yard in shade by early afternoon even when the front faces south — not something you'd catch from a quick drive-by quote. From there we sketch bed lines that follow the natural shape of the lot instead of forcing straight edges onto a property that doesn't have any.

Larger installs can be phased if the budget calls for it. Foundation plantings and bed structure first. Specialty plantings once that's established and holding up.

Masonry Patio Installation Services

We build with high-end pavers, natural flagstone, and brick that hold up when the ground freezes and shifts. Excavating to the right depth. Compacting a proper aggregate base. Pitching the surface so water runs away from the house.

The base is what separates a patio that lasts from one that doesn't, and it's also the part nobody sees once the job's done — which is exactly why so many corners get cut there. We excavate deeper than the minimum for this soil type specifically, since sandy ground compacts differently than loam and needs a thicker aggregate layer to stay stable through repeated freeze-thaw cycles. We mock up the footprint on-site with your actual furniture or fire pit in mind rather than defaulting to a standard rectangle.

Retaining Wall Installations Greenlawn

Ridge's sandy soil and sloped lots can send rainwater right at your foundation. Our retaining walls are built to stop that.

Material choice depends less on looks than most homeowners expect and more on what the wall actually has to hold back. A short decorative wall separating a flower bed from the lawn can get away with natural stone stacked for appearance. Anything over a couple of feet retaining a real grade change needs engineered block with proper geogrid reinforcement tied back into the slope — otherwise it leans within a few years, no matter how good the stonework looks on day one. We size drainage behind every wall to the soil conditions on that specific property, and grade the top to shed water away from the structure instead of pooling behind it.

Stone Walkways

A cracked or uneven front walk is a liability the first time someone slips on it.

Most failed walkways we get called out to replace weren't built wrong on the surface — they failed underneath, from a base that was never compacted properly or edge restraints that got skipped to save a step. We treat the sub-base the same way we would on a patio, because a walkway takes the same freeze-thaw punishment over a much narrower footprint. That actually makes it more prone to individual stones heaving out of place if the prep work is thin.

For a front entry specifically, we'll often widen the path beyond the bare minimum and add a slight taper near the door. It changes how the whole approach to the house reads, and it barely moves the material cost.



Landscape lighting

Low-voltage LED lighting adds curb appeal after dark and makes a property safer to walk at night.

Layout matters more than fixture count. A yard with lights every few feet along a path tends to look like a runway, while a few well-placed uplights on the right trees and grazing light along a stone wall does more to actually change how a property feels once the sun's down. On wooded Ridge properties, we'll often light the edge of the tree line rather than the open lawn — that's what creates depth after dark, instead of a flat, evenly-lit yard. Everything runs on a low-voltage transformer with a timer or smart control, and the wiring gets buried deep enough that years of mowing won't touch it.



Rebuilding Custom Front Stoops & Steps

Builder-grade concrete steps settle, crack, and pull away from the siding over time, letting water into your foundation.

The reason so many original stoops fail within 10 to 15 years comes down to the footing. Most tract-built homes get a shallow, poured slab that isn't tied into the frost line, so every winter freeze-thaw cycle works it a little looser until it visibly separates from the house. We dig below the frost depth and pour a real footing before anything decorative goes on top — that's the part that actually determines whether the new stoop outlasts the house or repeats the same failure in another decade. On the finish side, we can match brick or stone detailing to what's already there, or use the rebuild as a chance to update the entry entirely.



Sprinkler Systems

Sandy soil here loses moisture fast. A properly zoned system is the difference between a lawn that survives August and one that doesn't.

We zone by more than lawn versus beds — sun exposure, slope, and soil depth all change how much water an area actually needs. Grouping zones by those factors instead of by convenience is what keeps a system from overwatering one section while another goes dry. Water runs straight through before it soaks in if the application rate is too high on sandy ground, so we'll often use lower-precipitation nozzles here than we would elsewhere in Suffolk County.

On properties with a septic system, we map zones around the leach field so irrigation isn't working against your septic. A lot of standard installs overlook that entirely.
